The web demos are active content connected to a live Giant order processing database.

Samples are supplied for the following functions:

Active Database Content

Lookup a distributor by state, zip, or area code. This maybe not an example with

a lot of appeal but it was the first Giant web control created. The cool thing is

that you can select on three different fields using one control. The backend

program is "smart" enough to recognize the field by what is entered and

treats zip codes with special logic for a +/- 100 range selection. (PS. The

potential customer has not gone for this idea - yet).

Order tracking with current order information returned to the web browser. In

the demonstration system most all the database fields are displayed but you

could limit display to order status and package tracking number. Security is

provided through a requirement to know both customer number and order number.

The last set of controls is the big kahouna of an active web site – quick and easy

order entry into the live database. Customers are provided with an order number

from assigned from the live database. Orders can be tracked seconds after they

are entered. Security is provided thru an account password.

The current example is targeted for abstracting and title insurance businesses.

This is a high volume service business where Giant software has been used for over 10 years.

If you want to track an order, try using a100:W102 or b102:W104.

If you want to try entering an order, try using accounts a100:xyz or b102:007.

This is a demo site – you will not be ordering anything or hurting anything.

Questions and Problems

This web site consists of a publicly hosted facade that is connected with a back-end database server that provides the active content for web based tracking and order entry.

If the back-end is not available you will be able to see the home page and these explanations but will receive errors on an 162.40.xxx.yyy computer.

Another possible problem occurs when the back-end computer is running but the Giant web service process is not running. In that case, you will be able to connect with the back-end server but the GWEBSITE.ASP script will timeout. This can also be cause by slow response on the back-end server or general internet slowness.
